Cedar Class
Welcome to the Cedar class page! Here you will find lots of examples of our learning and information about our curriculum. Please check back regularly for updates.
A Very Busy 2 Weeks
We have been very busy over the last couple of weeks with a very exciting science lesson (making blood smoothies) and learning about the components of blood. We also took part in a Numicon day and applied our problem solving skills to a range of problems. We were also treated to fabulous workshops about Shakespeare and to support us with our transition to secondary school.
Summer Term Update
This term we have been using our book of holes to inspire our writing and some drama. We have been working on fractions in maths and shown great resilience. To support our transition to secondary school we have completed focused work around: tolerance, resilience, kindness and empathy.
Home Learning - Spring Term
Please find all of your home learning activities on Seesaw. You are all used to using brilliantly as you have used it during the 1st Lockdown and for homework since our return in September.
You should check Seesaw daily for all of your updated activities. Please make sure you take brain breaks between activities and you complete work to the best of your ability! If you would like to go over and above and complete more activities, please check out the termly overview for the topics we will be covering.
Remember to contact me through Seesaw if you need anything further support or guidance.

Cedar Class Assembly
We have recorded our class assembly to share with you here is the YouTube link!
Science Day
Our topic this term is survival and we found a way of completing a STEM activity that linked to our topic. We conducted a water filtration investigation in groups. We showed our WWO skills by taking it in turns and listening to everyone's ideas.
Our discussion led us to think about the length of time it takes to filter the water. Would the water be clearer if the water took longer to filter?
See the photos below for the results.
Maths Week - October 2020
This week we have been taking part in maths week. Our task was to create our own 3D Geometry city. This city was created in teams using our WWO skills working together as teams to design and build our project. We needed to know many geometric terms including; the properties of 3D shapes; parallel lines and perpendicular lines.
We also used our knowledge of angles that we have been learning in our maths sessions with Mrs Duggan.
Recommended Book List
Here it finally is - the Year 6 book list! There are 100 books we recommend for you to read across the year. Some of the books would be ideal to share with your family at home and others perfect for independent reading. Enjoy!
Guided Reading
Over the last two weeks we have been unpicking a song by James TW. He has over 700 hundred million streams on Spotify!
Mr Hayne messaged James and asked for a video message to inspire the class to re-write the lyrics from a different characters perspective to one of his most popular songs. James TW kindly agreed to record a video message for Cedar class. Check back for some examples of our new lyrics. Video from James TW below.
Maths Investigation Day
For maths investigation day we spent our whole day enjoying different maths activities. We even had PE (Badminton) in the afternoon and adapted this to include a mathematical twist. We also completed the Numicon firework display using number rods. See pictures below for a range of maths activities completed over the last two weeks.
