Welcome to Elm Class
Summer 2
This term our topic is 'Ocean Explorers'. We will be looking at sea creatures, beaches, pirates and mermaids. We are excited for our final fun-filled topic in Reception.
Enrichment Week - India
Summer 1
This term our topic is 'All Creatures Great and Small'. We will be learning about dinosaurs, mini-beasts and farm animals. We are looking forward to another exciting half term.
OUTDOOR LEARNING DAY
This term we have been thinking about minibeasts habitats and what food minibeasts eat. In English we have written a list of different things we think we would need to create our own home for the minibeasts.
We had lots of fun collecting different materials for our 'Bugingham Palace'
We were so excited to have a visit from ZooLab. We learnt lots of information about different minibeasts.
"Minibeasts have no bones!"
We were extremely brave and got to touch different minibeasts. We thought about the texture of the minibeasts when feeling them.
January Lockdown 2021
Following the Government announcement we are now moving to remote home learning. This will be from Wednesday 6th January.

At Bartons we use Seesaw as our home learning platform. To access seesaw please follow the link below, using your child log in details. The login details are in your child's green home learning book which was sent home last term. Please let us know as soon as possible if you cannot access seesaw, so we can provide you with the information needed.

There will be a short video on seesaw today (Tuesday 5th January) please respond to this video so that we can confirm you have access.

This was not the start to the Spring Term we had hoped for. It was lovely seeing the children yesterday and we look forward to welcoming them back as soon as we can.

Please find our class curriculum overview below. We are now in the Spring Term. Our topic is child-initiated learning and the children have chosen to explore the topic of 'People Who Help Us'.

The curriculum overview will give you some details about the sort of things we will be covering during home learning.
Please enjoy our Bartons Nativity.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Autumn 2
This term our topic is 'Reach for the Stars'. We will be learning about Space and exploring fiction and non-fiction books.
Here is our Elm Class Assembly. We hope you enjoy seeing what we have been up to this half-term
We arrived at school to find some snowy footprints. Miss Yardley checked the CCTV and found reindeers had entered our classroom over night. We loved becoming detectives and investigating the footprints.
On Science Day we had lots of fun making our own planets and exploring how craters are made on the moon.
We have been exploring the different sounds fireworks make and learnt the meaning of onomatopoeia.
Listen to some of our firework sounds...

Autumn 1
This term our topic is Marvellous Me. We have lots of exciting learning opportunities planned throughout the year.

Maths Week
During Maths Week we began to explore using mathematical language to describe the height and length of different objects. We drew round ourselves and measured how many footprints long we were. We also created our own robots, using Numicon, wooden blocks and shapes and discussed the height of them in comparison to us.
This week we have been exploring our senses. We went on a senses walk around the school grounds. We loved touching different textures and using the binoculars to help use see our environment.
We also had lots of fun using our senses to guess what was inside Miss Yardley's special boxes.
On Maths Investigation Day, we went on a nature walk and found lots of different items. We then used all the different natural resources to make our own shapes.
Recommended Book List
Here is a range of recommended quality books for children in Reception to listen to and enjoy at home. It is really important children are exposed to a variety of different books and are given lots of opportunities to hear stories read to them. We want to encourage a love for reading at an early age!

Phonics

At Bartons Primary we follow the Read Write Inc Phonics scheme. We have started teaching the children the pure sounds for each letter.

Please watch the video below to hear the pronunciation of the letter sounds the children are learning.
