Chestnut

Welcome to Chestnut Class
Summer Term
We kick-started the summer term with a fantastic visit to the Sea Life Centre in Brighton. The children had loads of fun learning about a wide variety of sea creatures and how their habitats provide them with what they need to survive.Take a look at our learning journey to find out more about our exciting topic 'Life on the Ocean Waves'.

Infant Rio Legacy Sports Morning
We took part in the Felpham and Bognor Infant sports morning at the Regis School. We had a great time trying a variety of olympic sports including fencing, boccia and volleyball. All the activities were organised by the amazing Sports Leaders from the Regis School. We've brought back lots of ideas for our PE lessons!
Science Investigation Day
We have been working hard on Shellington's Bean Growing Challenge: Can we make a bean grow? We were working scientifically by asking questions, making observations and drawing diagrams. We also took part in Mr Hayne's exciting science experiment to see what happens when you mix vinegar and bicarbonate of soda. The results were surprising (and a bit messy!)
Spring Term
We had a visit from P.C Aldridge who taught us more about staying safe when using technology. It was lovely to see that Chestnut Class were full of interesting questions that they wanted to ask. If you want to find out more then follow the link below.
Fire! We had a visit from Paul Ullson who helped us learn more about the Great Fire of London. We re-enacted how people would have made a chain to carry water to the burning building. In Literacy we have been writing a recount of our special morning.
Take a look at the exciting things we have be learning about during spring term. Our topic was 'Ice and Fire'. We had loads of history, geography and science to explore;  The Titanic, Robert Scott, hot and cold countries and habitats and the Great Fire of London. We read some lovely fiction books such as Lost and Found, The Paper Bag Princess and Masha and the Firebird to support our reading and writing this term (shown in red).
Autumn Term:
In Science we have been learning about materials and their properties. In Chestnut Class we decided that chocolate saucepans and glass coats are a bad idea. Take a look at these science games on the BBC website to find out more!
We had Emma the owl expert visit us with some of her beautiful owls!
