Welcome to Elm Class
Welcome to all of the children who have joined Bartons, Elm Class this year.
We hope you all enjoy your first term in school and look forward to working and playing together. It will be exciting making new friends and finding out about each other with our treasure boxes.
There is a lot of information on the website to help answer the many questions you may have but please ask the staff in class if you have any worries or queries.
Please have a look at our Learning Journey (What's in the Box ) to see an outline of the work we will be doing this half term. We look forward to working with you all, children, parents, families and carers as we start our journey together.
Phonics in Reception
We started the year by listening out for sounds around us and identifying them.
Next we learned about rhyming. We sang lots of songs and nursery rhymes and listened out for rhyming words in stories and poems.
We use our outdoor area all day. We have a writing shed, all sorts of building and construction resources, bikes and scooters, climbing equipment and a lovely role-play house. We can use sand, water dough and the mud kitchen as well as paint and chalks.
Our parents came in to share our Learning Journals.
They are very proud of us!
We read the book Owl Babies.
We thought of actions to match each part of the story.
As we read each part we talked about the characters and how they felt.
Telling the story like this helped us to remember it.
Then we wrote some of the things we thought the owls would say.
These are the letter sounds of the alphabet.
We call letter sounds phonemes.
Click on the videos to hear the children say them.
