Welcome to Bartons Primary School
Thank you very much for visiting our new school website. I hope that you find all of the information that you are looking for and it gives you a flavour of our friendly and popular school.
At Bartons, we pride ourselves on being a happy and family school where learning and growing potentials is at the heart of everything that we do. Relationships between the children and adults are strong where every child is known well by the dedicated staff and we embrace team working with the whole of our school community. We want our children to be happy and confident and we work hard to provide a safe, fun and caring environment. Every child is special to us and we work closely in partnership with parents to build on each child's individual skills and talents in order that they develop a love of learning and enjoy school. We strive to develop the whole child and we believe that our inclusive and creative curriculum will stimulate and motivate young curious minds.
In English lessons, we encourage children to love books and to read for pleasure. Stories are celebrated and we use Accelerated Reader to track progress. We believe children should consider themselves authors and love writing. We follow a writing journey which includes immersive activities to encourage the children to really understand the text type, characters, plot and setting. We then teach GPS and writing skills which may include class shared writing.
In Maths, we follow the Numicon approach which teaches a progression of skills carefully planned to immerse children in using the CPA approach to deepen learning and understanding for mastery. We are a Numicon Advocate School where we have been recognised for our work in the teaching and learning of Maths. We are the only Numicon Advocate School in West Sussex; our children love Maths.
We promote British Values and have a set of agreed Core Learning Values and Skills which underpin all aspects of learning. These are embedded into our curriculum and are promoted through our School Council, School Assemblies, Growth Mindset work and our collaborative learning approach 'Working With Others' activities.
At Bartons, teamwork is vitally important and so our House System and WWO approach encourages the children to be proud of their school and to take responsibility for their behaviour, learning and to look after their working environment. For this reason, we call ourselves Team Bartons.
Please come and visit us if you would like to find out more about Team Bartons and thank you for visiting our school website.

Bartons has been Awarded Maths Numicon
Advocate School Status
The school embarked on a Maths teaching and learning approach called Numicon two years ago. Over that time, the school has invested heavily in classroom resources and training for school staff. The programme uses manipulative equipment to make Maths understanding clearer and more meaningful. Our children and staff very quickly enjoyed and embraced the resource based Maths teaching and, across the school, Maths has become a very popular subject.
I am thrilled to announce that after much discussion with the Oxford University Press and an intense audit of Maths teaching and learning, Bartons have been awarded the honour of becoming a Numicon Advocate school that recognises very good progress made in Maths and the quality teaching of the subject. It also allows us to help other schools in their journey by showing great examples of Maths teaching the Numicon way. What makes this award even more special is that we will be the only Numicon Advocate school in the whole of Sussex.
Please follow us on Twitter @MathsAtBartons to see exciting Maths taking place in school.
Working With Others Silver Accreditation
This term, we found out that following an intense audit and scrutiny, Bartons had been awarded a Silver Accreditation award for their work in WWO. Working With Others is a collaborative learning approach that links to our school learning values and skills. It promotes collaboration and positive learning attitudes. The school is part of the West Sussex partnership schools group and this award reflects the hard work of staff and the excellent collaboration skills of the children. Well done everyone and thank you Mrs Morris for leading WWO so well.
