Welcome to the Year 1 Class Page
Here, you can follow our learning journey throughout the year, both in and out of the classroom. We are all looking forward to working hard and having an exciting year!
Autumn Term 1 2026
Our topic this half-term is 'Into the Woods', where we will be looking at seasonal changes and weather patterns in Science. We will also be developing our map skills in Geography. In English, our main text is 'The Gruffalo' by Julia Donaldson and we will also be learning to write some simple autumn poetry.

Year 1 Trips and Visits
We have two main trips and visits in Beech Class.
They are as follows:
 
Spring Term 2: Amberley Museum. 
Cost last year: £28.
 
Summer 2: Emma's Travelling Farm to visit Bartons.
Cost last year: £13.50
PE Days
Our PE days this half-term are Tuesday and Thursday.
Please ensure your child wears their house t-shirt and black/navy hoodie, shorts or joggers. No jewellery should be worn on these days.
Our First Week in Year One
We have really enjoyed our first week in Year One and have settled in quickly. We have been getting to know our new classroom and the grown ups who are going to work with us. 
As part of our Working With Others sessions, we were challenged to see if we could work together to make the longest paper chain out of one piece of A4 paper. We had to think carefully about the size of each chain and ended up with some very long paper chains!
Maths Investigation Day
We spent the morning investigation number bonds to ten and 20. In pairs, one person chose some cubes and hid some of them under a cup. Their partner had to work out how many were hidden by counting the number left outside. We really had to think about our bonds to ten, and 20, and had to use our counting skills to find the answer!
We spent the afternoon investigating shapes. We used lots of different equipment to make and sort shapes, thinking about, and describing, their properties.
