World Book Week 2026
There was a whole school poetry focus this year at Bartons for world book week. Hazel class looked at a fantastic book by Dr. Hannah Weston-Simons who is a NHS GP with an English degree from her pre-medicine days.  She is passionate about children's literature, and has always loved poetry. we loved creating our own body part poetry using her as a influence.

Science Week
During Science Week we learnt about Forces and magnets. Hazel class loved experimenting with different surfaces, looking at which would be the smoothest for a car to travel down. We then learnt about magnets, what was a magnet, what items were and weren't magnetic and then learnt about the two poles. The children loved presenting their findings in the annual Science fair to the school.
Our trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace!

As we have been learning about the Romans, we went on a trip to Fishbourne Roman Palace! We did a brilliant workshop where our Romans knowledge was put to the test! We got to experience what a Roman kitchen would have been like and learnt how they made flour. We took part in some Roman activities including: writing out names in Latin, using a wax tablet, playing some Roman games, building a stable bridge, making mosaics and looking at different artefacts with a magnifying glass.
We worked our way around the museum with our work booklets and found facts and interesting artefacts that we recorded. The mosaics were amazing to see in real life and made us realise just how many pieces went into creating them!
We were fascinated to learn who that Tiberius Claudius Cogidubnus, a friend to the Romans, most likely lived in the Fishbourne Roman Palace and we loved seeing a model of what it likely originally looked like!

Growth mindset/ WWO/ Anti/Bullying week
We have had lots of brilliant discussions around how our mindset can overcome negative feelings that surround bullying. We have used our WWO skills to work together on activities this week.
MATHS WEEK 2025
Hazel class have mastered time this week, we have focussed on 24 hour and analogue clocks mostly but there has been a focus on times of the day and measurements of time.
Buster Ancient Farm
Hazel class had a fantastic trip to Butster farm, our guide Adrian was blown away by how incredible the children were and their impeccable manners and super History knowledge. We had a day packed with all things Stone age, Bronze age and Iron age.
 English
We have been writing portal stories, we moved around the room on a scavenger hunt looking for adjectives  and fronted adverbials and then created a portal description on our tables in pairs.
SCIENCE
We have been learning about light and shadows in science the children loved creating shadows with different objects using the torches.
