Mobile Phones in School
Primary aged children do not need to bring a mobile phone into school and therefore are not permitted to do so. The only exception is a Year 5 or 6 child, who walks to school without an adult, and therefore needs a mobile phone to walk safely to and from school. Any child found to be in possession of a mobile phone without permission will have it confiscated and the parent will be contacted to collect it and explain why the pupil has one in school.
Only pupils in Years 5 and 6 are permitted to walk to school without an adult. A signed permission form must be completed by the parent/carer and given to the school office. Children walking to and from school without an adult must have a mobile phone with them for safety reason.
Pupils in Years 5 and 6, who walk to school and who have a mobile phone, must hand their phone to the class teacher first thing in the morning at the classroom door and must collect it from the class teacher at the end of the day.
Pupils mobile phones must not be switched on whilst they are on the school premises. They must be turned off at the school gate in the morning and turned back on at the end of the day at the school gate. The phones must be named or easily identifiable.
The school does not take any responsibility for damage or loss. If a child is bringing a mobile phone to school then the school must have written consent from the parent/s.
There is a school policy for the use of mobile phones in school on the school website.
