BOOK WEEK 2025!
This year's book week was very exciting as we had a real life author come to our school! Our theme was GRAPHIC NOVELS and the authors name is Steve Webb.
During his time at Bartons, he told us about his inspiration for his books, showed us how to draw some of the characters, helped us get inspiration to create our own characters and story and told us it takes him 8 months to write a graphic novel!!
We learnt a lot and we realised how challenging it is to write a graphic novel because you still need to have a good storyline as well as create speech that can tell the story AS WELL as be able to design/create the illustrations!
When Dr Knights visited Hazel class!
We had a visit from Dr Knights during our hot seat session in English this week, the children asked her many questions about her job and its positives and negatives.
Chinese New Year Dance Workshop
We worked closely with a professional dancer to create a small dance routine around the theme of Chinese new year. We performed movements which told the story of each animal, using only movements, no speaking, we told a beautiful story and the children all were engaged and loved it.
Fishbourne Roman Palace Trip!
Hazel class had an amazing time visiting Roman Fishbourne palace. We explored mosaics, we took part in various workshops related to Roman themes and discovered the in depth history through the museum.
Stone Age, Bronze Age & Iron Age
This half term we are going back in time to when mammoths walked the Earth and cavemen and women hunted and gathered their food!
We are going to learn all about this time period and have the exciting opportunity to visit Buster Farm for our school trip!
This terms science topic is light and shadows. Children love to look at shadows and this science experiment allowed them to discover how shadows are made outside and how they change as the day progresses. We started the experiment at 9:11am and we drew around our shadow and feet we captured this on our grid and through photos. We repeated the experiment 3 more times 10:45, 13:00 and 2:45 seeing how the shadows changed throughout the day. The experiment was really exciting and the children loved capturing their shadows. At one point the sun disappeared and appeared behind a cloud and we had to race to finish our shadow outline before it disappeared again. The children worked so hard and absolutely loved it.
